HC COLLECTED EDITIONS standings 2.0

This chart lists potential Marvel Masterworks volumes. Only the next potential volume of a series is included. (For a potential new series, the next potential volume is the first.)

Entries are listed by the month and year of their first publication dates (and, when the dates match, alphabetical order).

Completed series are removed from the chart.

Newly announced continuing series previously not listed will be added to the chart.

The chart shall have an odd number of entries at all times. Therefore, a potential new series will be added whenever changes to the chart would otherwise result in an even number of entries. The potential series added will have the earliest first publication date of all qualifying potential series not yet represented on the chart.
a)      Occasionally, the first publication date criterion may be waived, and a completed series may be replaced with a potential new series that focuses on the same character as the completed series.

Potential series devoted to licensed properties, the romance genre, and the western genre (even the established series Rawhide Kid) shall be excluded from this chart.
a)      If a potential series begins in an aforementioned genre but evolves out of that genre by the end of its prospective first volume, the potential series qualifies for inclusion (The Red Wolf Clause).

The war genre is represented only by Sgt Fury on this chart. Another war genre title will only qualify for potential inclusion if and when the Sgt Fury series is completed.

If a potential one-volume series would have to over-rely on guest appearances to achieve a reasonable page count, the potential series is disqualified from inclusion on the chart. Rather, it would be better-suited for potential inclusion in an anthology series, e.g., Marvel Rarities (The No Man-Wolf Clause).

Anthology series such as Marvel Rarities or a potential Marvel Horror series are not included on the chart as contents and first publication dates cannot be predicted.

Potential new series that are first published in omnibus format shall be disqualified, BUT NOT PERMANENTLY, from the chart. As of this writing, the shortest length of time between the FIRST PRINTING of a series in omnibus format and the same series being printed in Masterworks format is SIX YEARS and TEN MONTHS, established by Werewolf by Night. Thus, a potential new series impacted by an omnibus first print publication will regain qualification for inclusion after six years and ten months.
a)      If a precedent is set in which a series previously published in omnibus format then joins the Marvel Masterworks Library in a timeframe of less than six years and ten months, all potential new series impacted will re-qualify for inclusion on the chart with the new timeframe.

The shortest length of time between a REPRINTING of a series in omnibus format and the same series being printed in Masterworks format is THREE YEARS, established by Tomb of Dracula. Thus, a potential new series impacted by an omnibus reprint will regain qualification for inclusion after three years.
a)      If a precedent is set in which a series previously reprinted in omnibus format then joins the Marvel Masterworks Library in a timeframe of less than three years, all potential new series impacted will re-qualify for inclusion on the chart with the new timeframe.

Non-omnibus hardcover formats shall also impact the qualification of potential new series. Timeframes for re-qualification will mirror omnibus impacts until a more appropriate timeframe can be ascertained.

When an established series that focuses on a character with an inconsistent publishing history reaches a gap in that history, the series remains on the chart only if the first publication date of the prospective next volume is earlier than the first publication date of the last entry on the chart (The Silver Surfer Clause).
a)      In cases where the prospective next volume happens to be a title that has been published in omnibus format, the series will be disqualified from the chart for the remainder of either the six-year-and-ten-month timeframe or the three-year timeframe, as appropriate (The She-Hulk Sub-Clause).
[+] Spoiler
I think most of you will start calling it The Ka-Zar Sub-Clause in about four months.
