As a kid I grew up with Lego as my first real toy. No sense giving a biography of my love for the toy and hobby. But long story short, my dad died when I was in high school and all his belongings including my stuff were taken by others and I didn't get anything, including my Legos and comics at his house (two homes, parents divorced). I never got anything back. But in 2019 I bought a few small sets and have gotten back into it.
Anyhow, the past year has been exciting because my boyfriend has gotten into the hobby too and we are building different sets together, having lots of fun. A while back I started working on a custom build of a comic shop I go to downtown. I was inspired by the design when I saw someone use a knockoff set as a base for a "Medical" Marijuana Shop haha. I thought, why can't I make a shop I want to shop at too, since Lego is likely never to make that a real set.
So over the past year I've been building and tweaking and adding stuff as I gotten more parts. And I think I am finally finished with it. And I am quite happy with it. I thought folks here might get a kick out of it since it's a Comic Shop. The only thing I would like to add that I don't have is one of those Ant-Man micro figures to display as an action figure, or a Captain America shield piece, which I don't have in my collection.
The front of the Comic shop
The back of the Comic Shop
The side facing the street. My boyfriend always waits outside and smoke while drinking coffee until I am finished scouring through longboxes
This is the side that faces the alleyway leading to the paid parking garage.
From the top
Opened up. Set is on a hinge with a technic connection.
Better look at the one side. Lots of nerdy collectibles on display. A TV playing a Pirate movie, shelves filled with graphic novels and stacks of tankobon manga. And a longbox full of floppies that I am excitedly browsing. I'm rather proud of my simple Lava Lamp design I put back there on the shelf.
Ask the manager to unlock the glass shelf to look at the premium items.
This kid is very excited to buy this Batarang toy! It was his favorite collectable in the shop.
The old man who owns the shop is happy for the sale, but he wishes younger shoppers would buy more books and less toys about the book characters.
Anyhow. That's it. Kinda simple, but fun. It's not an exact 1 for 1 of my local shop, but it's a decent approximation. I am quite happy with it. Enough that I'm done fiddling and happy to leave as is. I figured some of you might get a kick from it too, since it's a Comic Shop. I'll spare you all my obsession with Lego Pirates.
