As we turn another page on the calendar, let’s journey back to May of 1974, as the Watergate saga continues to grind on, a novelty song dominates the radio, and Harlem bid farewell to a jazz legend, while in the four color world, DC brought us the final Kaluta Shadow and a rare Alex Toth super-hero tale!
 

News of the Month:
 
9th - US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee begins formal hearings on Nixon impeachment
 
12th - NBA Championship: Boston Celtics beat Milwaukee, 4 games to 3
 
16th - Helmut Schmidt becomes West German Chancellor
 
17th - In Compton, California, a shootout between members of the Los Angeles Police Department and the Symbionese Liberation Army results in the death of six SLA members, including their leader
 
18th - India becomes the sixth nation to explode an atomic bomb
 
19th - Stanley Cup Final, The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA: Goaltender Bernie Parent and the Flyers shut out the Boston Bruins, 1-0, to win series 4-2
 
20th - U.S. District Judge John J. Sirica ordered President Nixon to surrender 64 tape recordings of White House conversations that had been subpoenaed by the special prosecutor, Leon Jaworski.
 
22nd - "Julie and Jackie: How Sweet It Is" music and comedy variety special starring Julie Andrews and Jackie Gleason airs on ABC-TV
 
24th - Edward "Duke" Ellington, American bandleader, composer and pianist dies of cancer at 75
 
28th - 6th Emmy Awards: M*A*S*H, Alan Alda & Mary Tyler Moore win
