Remember the Marvel Civil war where Peter blew his id to the world and then later regretted it ? He needed Dr. Strange to do VERY HARD magic which you shouldn't ever do ( and then Peter goes and tells half the world again anyway, but that's by the by ).
Well apparently it's a lot easier to get your secret id back than Dr. Strange thinks. I'm reading early 70s Captain America at the moment where Cap decides to tell the world he's Captain America ( I wonder why Stan and Jack decided on that plot point ? ). Very shortly after that there's a fairly weak attempt by Steranko to restore the secret by having Steve dump a dummy corpse of Captain America ( supposedly gunned down by HYDRA ) with a rubber facemask of Steve in the Hudson.
So how would the world interpret that ? Cap is dead and he used a mask so he might not look like Steve Rogers. However in the comic Steve continues on as Cap and even joins the NY police. Wouldn't at least half the people that see Steve Rogers ( still calling himself "Steve Rogers" yet ) immediately go up to him and ask, "Aren't you Captain America Mr. Rogers ?"
Well no they don't, because apparently in Avengers #107 the Space Phantom made the whole world forget about Steve Rogers by pressing a button on a machine. Easy Peasy. Someone should tell Dr. Strange.
