Hi friends! Here’s the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of nostalgia:
noun
nos·tal·gia nä-ˈstal-jə
: a wistful or excessively sentimental yearning for return to or of some past period or irrecoverable condition
also : something that evokes nostalgia
I’m not getting any younger, and my fond remembrances of Marvel past are still strong. I’m starting a new thread featuring items released or rereleased items recently that bring back some great memories. I’ll share pictures or recommendations that hit the old nostalgic sweet spot. Feel free to join me and share pictures of books or toys or cards or miscellaneous Marvel ephemera - anything that brings back great memories that has been released or that features vintage artwork or evokes earlier Marvel memories. I will focus mostly on silver age stuff, but as you’ll see below will veer into the bronze age, and even into the ‘90s as well.
I’m going to start with Patrick McDonnell’s 2023 release on Abram’s Marvel Arts imprint The Super-Hero’s Journey. I’m doing this because honestly, I was less than excited about this book when it came out. It followed Alex Ross’s fantastic four book, and it was a bit of a letdown when it was announced to me. I hope Abrams hasn’t stopped the line, because it was an interesting concept and I’d love to see some more of these deluxe books released. I decided to save the money and space and purchased this book via Kindle. I forgot about it and hadn’t read it when I saw that it was 72% off on Amazon. so for $8.50 I picked it up and when I was able to check it out, I was surprised at how nice the package was. I recommend love letter to 1960s Marvel, and memories of a simpler time.
