Third-party seller pricing?

I hope this doesn't break any rules, because I'm not promoting anything and not being too critical of sellers (on f.ex. Amazon), but when you see prices that are outlandish, what do you think the reasoning is for that? I've just seen a book (twelve volumes in the IDW series, most go for +/- $50 US [there are three volumes that go for higher]) with a volume that tends to be a bit higher and harder to find going for over $3K right now. It's never going to sell at that price (they could possibly get $250--maybe $300 if they're lucky--from someone desperate to complete the set, I'd say), so enlighten a naive guy: what's the seller's objective for posting it for sale with a price like that, in your opinions? I'm honestly baffled at what they're trying to achieve. Hoping someone reads it wrong and hits "Buy Now" and never notices the mistake, possibly? Thanks.
